Current D220 School Board of Education member, Steve Wang, responded to the questionnaire proposed by our community members. His response is provided below in its entirety.
Hi Kiley,
Thank you for putting together the questionnaire. I am so grateful for all that you do and admire your focus on matters that warrant attention. Given my current role on the School Board and some of the information I am privy to, I hesitate to get into too much detail on the current work at hand to answer the proposed questions, though I do not want to go silent. That said, here are a few positions and thoughts I want to share:
1. I support all programs within our district, particularly when there is a community desire and even more so when there is a need.
2. I am very pleased that we have constructed a Special Education Parent Group so that we can identify directly from the consumers our areas of opportunity and transform our special education program.
3. I am proud of the advancements the district has made in terms of academic excellence, including those made over the last four years, during my term on the Board of Education.
4. Like many districts, there are more demands than funds to meet all those demands. My professional experience with multi-billion-dollar budgets for businesses that aim to serve those in need makes me uniquely qualified to take a big picture view of our district and provide informed guidance for how to spend limited funds with maximum community return.
5. I strive to be responsive to all parent needs and engage directly to ensure that I fully understand each situation that is brought to my attention. After I understand the issue, I work tirelessly with my colleagues and administration to ensure proper steps are taken to find solutions.
6. My goal is for Barrington 220 to be THE BEST district in the nation and I will not rest until that is a fact. Like many, I moved to District 220 for the school system and I intend to make sure that is among the key reasons for future residents of our amazing school district.
7. I learned long ago that I do not always have the answers. Accordingly, I welcome dialogue and healthy debate. The last four years have been a learning experience for me and I am sure, if re-elected, the next four will also be a learning experience, and one that I welcome so that I can help continue elevating District 220.
Hopefully this provides further insight into my methods and thoughts; I hope you consider supporting my re-election to continue the practices and thoughts I noted above. Thank you again for your inquiry. I look forward to collaborating with you further as we continue this journey together.
Sincere Regards,
Steve Wang
