The following eMail was sent to Barrington D220 Board of Education Candidates on Friday, 2/21/25 on behalf of the SEEN, Inc. Executive Board. The questions were compiled by various special education families in district, and agreed upon by the SEEN Executive Board . We look forward to the responses of the candidates, and will share on March 7, 2025 via blog post and to our social media outlets.

Hello D220 School Board Candidate,

SEEN (Student Education Empowerment Network), a non-profit family advocacy  organization based in Barrington, is requesting your response to the questions below by March 6, 2025. We are providing all D220 BOE candidates with the opportunity to provide responses to our questionnaire and will post the unedited responses on our blog on March 7, 2025. You are under no obligation to respond but we welcome your thoughts. For more information on SEEN, please visit www.seennetwork.org.

  1. If you have been an elected official previously, what do you attribute as your biggest accomplishment for students in special education?

    If you were to be elected to the new board, what is something you’d like to either advocate for or accomplish during your term in regards to special education? 

  2. What do you think D220s greatest challenges are regarding special education?

  3. If a parent or guardian approached you with what they felt like was a systemic problem, what would you do?

  4. In parental forums on social media, many seek advice on where to move within the Chicago suburbs to give their child in special ed the best help. District 220 is never mentioned.  What can D220 do to become an area leader and a destination for students needing special education?

  5. When faced with opposition, how would you determine when to stand firm or when to adapt your position?
